Septic Systems - Design Capacity Verification

The protection of rivers, streams and aquatic estuaries is important to this and future generations. Properly permitted, operated and maintained septic tanks systems do a good job of protecting rivers and streams by treating household wastewater. Septic treatment systems are designed to provide adequate wastewater treatment taking into consideration site conditions, soil characteristics and system loading. Site conditions and soil characteristics are generally consistent with the design intent, however septic treatment system loading is highly variable.

It is a well known fact that overloading septic tank systems beyond the design capacity of the system can cause poor treatment of the effluent before it reaches ground water sources due to the lack of aerobic zone in the drain field and can lead to the eventual failure of the drain field. City Meter's sewer service meter can be used to verify septic treatment system loading is in accordance with the permitted wastewater design loading of the system. Verification of wastewater design loading will ensure that septic systems operate and treat household wastewater at designed levels of treatment. Onsite septic treatment systems can provide adequate treatment of household wastewater with proper metering, monitoring and maintenance programs.
