Water & Sewer utility customers often request an irrigation water tap to avoid paying sewer utility fees on water used to water the lawn and garden, wash cars and fill the swimming pool. This is a good faith practice provided by many water and sewer utilities across the United States. Many water and sewer utilities are reporting that this honor system is failing. They are finding customers are cross connecting and valving the main potable water line and the irrigation water line. In this configuration a portion of the water flows through the main water meter and a portion through the irrigation meter. Essentially these customers are stealing sewer service by allowing delivery of potable water through the irrigation meter which is not billed for sewer service.
City Meter's sewer service meter is a superior alternative to the "irrigation tap". If a customer requests a irrigation tap, simply install a sewer service meter in the customer's sewer service line. Meter and bill for the actual amount of sewer service the customer uses. This is the fair and equitable solution to the Irrigation Tap problem!
