Process Flow Monitoring

For industrial and commercial applications the City Meter is both useful and versatile in measuring any liquid containing solids under gravity flow conditions within its rated flow range. Unusual commercial and industrial applications should carefully consider the chemical resistance, and temperature range of the meter. The meter is constructed of rigid poly vinyl chloride and should not be exposed to chemicals, abrasives or temperature combinations which are known or suspected to be detrimental to rigid PVC pipe or rigid PVC pipe fittings.

The general rule in determination of the suitability for an application of the meter in the process or waste stream is: Can the process or waste stream pass through ordinary PVC pipe without detrimental effects upon the pipe or its fittings? An affirmative answer to this question normally allows the meter to be used, while a negative reply would disqualify the meter from the application. Sustained exposure to temperatures at or above 120 degrees Fahrenheit or direct sunlight should be avoided as with all rigid PVC products. Similarly, the meter should not be exposed to temperatures which allow liquids within the meter to freeze. The internals of the meter are specifically designed to be resistant to acids normally encountered in a domestic waste stream.

The ability to locate the read module remotely from the meter is particularly useful in industrial and commercial applications. The easy adaptation of ride by AMR to the read module means the meter can be routinely read by any computer equipped, programmed and within range.

On the technical side, the typical PVC material properties are: Deflection temperature under load according to ASTM D648(264 pounds per square inch while deflecting 0.25 inches) is 153 degrees Fahrenheit. The Durometer hardness (D scale) of the material is 81 when tested under ASTM D2240. The tensile strength of the material is 7,300 PSI when tested according to ASTM D638. The material is rated under NSF 61.
